Fayetteville, Georgia is named for the Marquis De Lafayette. He was a French nobleman who assisted Washington during the Revolutionary War.  He was honored for his efforts in the area that became known as Fayetteville on March 28, 1823. The area of Fayetteville became incorporated as a town later that year due to a law passed by the state legislature. After that, the town began to develop.
