All About Fayetteville, Georgia

Fayetteville, Georgia is named for the Marquis De Lafayette. He was a French nobleman who assisted Washington during the Revolutionary War.  He was honored for his efforts in the area that became known as Fayetteville on March 28, 1823. The area of Fayetteville became incorporated as a town later that year due to a law passed by the state legislature. After that, the town began to develop. Land was purchased and Fayetteville real estate was sold. The town really started to take shape. Growth continued at a swift pace in the Georgia town until about 1860.

In 1864 the town was occupied by Union forces, and the town pretty much shut down for the duration of the war. However, after the war and Reconstruction, the town of Fayetteville began to grow once again. By 1888 a railroad was functioning in the town and all was well.

Fayetteville, Georgia today is a much bigger area that is more populated and has more businesses. The new business area comprises approximately five miles, and the population continues to grow each and every year.
